How Do Tides Work?

How do tides work you may by asking well let me tell you. Gravity! I know what you think gravity is something completely different. Well it’s actually a major force when it comes to tides. This is possible because of the gravitational attraction of the sun and the moon on the ocean waters. Did you know that that's not the only comparison between the tides and gravity. The person who discovered gravity was the same person who discovered how tides work.

1. A tidal force is a massive object affecting other objects' gravity.
2. The further away from the affected object this less the tidal force is.
3. Tides depend on the strength of the affected object.
4. Earth stretches because of the gravity of the moon.
5. The moon has a lower gravitational pull because it's smaller.
6. The earth's gravitational pull is 13000 kilometers across.
7. The side of the earth that faces the moon is being affected more than the other side of the earth.
8. The earth will end up looking like a football because the pull from the side of the earth that is facing the moon is being pulled but we measure gravity from the centre and this means that earth is being pulled away from its centre.
9. The bulge that the moon is pulling has mass at least more of it.
10. The sun's tidal force is only half of the moon's tidal force.
11. The earth's bulge that is caused by the moon's gravitational pull on the earth actually gives a similar pull back on the moon but unlike the earth the moon responds to this pull which forces the moon to orbit faster.
12. Long ago the moon bulges were facing the opposite way to the earth which made it orbit rapidly.
13. As the earth's gravity pulls on the moon's bulges it makes the moon go slower and move further away the moon actually is moving a couple of centimeters away from the earth each year roughly the same span that your fingernails grow.

Our Solar System

 Our Solar System is in fact one of 500 Solar Systems in the Milky Way Galaxy. But our Solar System is very special because it contains eight planets and five known dwarf planets. The eight planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune (These are all in order). Mercury is the closest planet to the sun it also has an orbit of about 3 Earth months, Venus the hottest planet is the 2nd planet from the sun, Venus’s temperature can go up to 867 F. Next is Earth the planet of life is covered in H20 and green greasy land. What's interesting is Earth's neighbour Venus is the hottest planet while Earth is that hot at all! Now comes Mars the red planet this is the planet made of iron and carbon with very little oxygen which would leave humans dead within 2 minutes. Now where at the end of the terrestrial planets. Between Mars and Jupiter there is a line of asteroids called the asteroid belt which parts the Terrestrial planets and the Jovian planets. Jupiter, the first Jovian planet and also the largest in our solar system is a gas giant along with Saturn. Saturn gas giant Jupiter has the most rings in the entire solar system in fact Saturn’s rings could fit between Earth and Earth's Moon. Uranus the first and largest icy planet is legend to rain diamonds and be covered from head to toe in ice and water. Finally Neptune the farthest from the sun contains very faint rings and it has 14 known moons. And some people might think Neptune has a super power because Neptune has supersonic winds! Beyond Neptune there is something at the edge of the solar system is the Kuiper belt which is the home to hundreds of meteoroids and most of the dwarf planets as well.

Recently we have been learning about space and our solar system today our reliever has said for us to make a detailed document  about our solar system that refers to a video we watched at  the beginning in the day. I didn't find this very difficult but at the same time it wasn't easy. If you were given this task how hard do you think it would before you? And how do you think i could have made mine better?

Today we had a reliever and we had to complete a think board about our number of the day. I enjoyed making this think board and it did not take me long its not that complicated.

Learn About Day And Night

Today i have made an short animation about how day and night works just with a bit of a funny creative twist i enjoyed making this animation but we have made an animation pre this one so i thought of ideas pretty quick even though it was in the middle of a math test i think i shold have put more time in but i think it turned out alright. What do you think i could have done if i took more time?

These few weeks we have been learning about space and the fact files that come with it i have done mars, mercury, venus even earth and of course jupiter it has been very interesting and it is fun to play round with the format of the fact file i am proud to share this particular and i would like to know how to make it better

Me and R-Mays Awesome Animation

This week me and R-may have been working extremely hard on this animation that is involved with the subtraction strategy that is turning subtraction into addition by using a number line this was a bit of a fun twist to this strategy that i have been learning all term. What could i have done better to make it more interesting maybe there was something that did not appeal to you i really want to hear whatever feedback you have.

Lets Be Unwanted Pest Free!

This Week we have been practising noting down information and recording all the important evidence and information in a text. I was confused at first with this particular fact file because I kept stopping and starting the story it is based on. The story was all about the protection of New Zealand and New Zealand native wildlife it was a very interesting article to read because it was something happening that not many people think about on a daily basis. Relating to the story wasn't to hard though because my school Kaingaroa Primary is very passionate about this subject mainly because we are surrounded by beautiful wildlife.Overall it was a very interesting subject to read about and i would definitely read it again. Do you know what native creatures are in danger?

Anzac Day
